The Machine- Cult of the Ego and DEI
As we work toward understanding how social and psychological forces have enabled the situations that have taken place in my life, and our current political atmosphere, I’m going to shift away from my personal narrative for just a moment.
If you’re not already familiar with The Cult of the Ego, I 10/10 recommend checking it out. For those who would rather not, The Cult of the Ego explains how dysregulated people become powerful bullies that are quite difficult to counter. Over time that dysregulation takes over the social power structure.
So how does that look on the ground- in action?
In the A&E documentary series Houses of Horror: Secrets of College Greek Life there are many examples of how the least regulated person makes the rules, and now the love of power and control is maintained.
Episode 5 “Drowning in Secrets,” shows how dysregulation, and creativity in its application, not only becomes the norm, but a bar to jump over.
Episode 6 “Racism and The Machine,” give a brilliant inside look into how The Cult of the Ego is maintained by, and continues to maintain white supremacy in this case, through The Machine. Knowing that this is just one documented example, but that these strains of Racism, Classism, Sexism, and so much more have always continued in secrecy, compelling behavior on a massive scale.
This is how conformity is enforced.
The Machine is well-documented. It’s not even that secret anymore and yet it still persists as an engine of supremacy, despite being blatantly unconstitutional.
Knowing The Machine exists, no wonder my family thought they weren’t racist. Every last bit of this has to be undone, and the very first step is bringing it into the light. Until then, the same old SCRIPTs will maintain the hegemony.

I recommend watching the rest of the series as well. It’s a tribute to cycle breakers, and it certainly makes me feel less alone.
This is just one example of institutionalized racism. DEI practices are meant to level the playing field just a little. The current administrations war on DEI is essentially handing the keys to the country to a larger version of The Machine.
Over the centuries, how has The Machine shaped local politics, city councils, judicial appointments, hiring of DAs and public defenders, coroners and superintendents of boards of education?…
Just something to think about.
