What Is Coercive Helplessness?

  1. Acting incapable to make others step in and take over.
  2. Using incompetence as a strategy to avoid responsibility.
  3. Presenting oneself as too overwhelmed to function.
  4. Requiring others to manage basic tasks.
  5. Collapsing emotionally to force intervention.
  6. Pretending not to understand simple requests.
  7. Using helplessness to control the pace of the relationship.
  8. Making others feel obligated to rescue them.
  9. Avoiding accountability by claiming inability.
  10. Using fragility to manipulate outcomes.
  11. Acting confused to derail conversations.
  12. Relying on others to solve predictable problems.
  13. Using “I can’t” to shut down boundaries.
  14. Making others responsible for their emotional state.
  15. Weaponizing incompetence to maintain dependence.
