The ancestral machinery that makes gods inevitable

Human beings did not invent gods out of leisure, imagination, or philosophical curiosity. We invented gods because our ancestors survived by treating the world as if it were alive, intentional, and watching. Long before language, long before ritual, long before culture, the nervous system evolved under conditions where misreading the environment could mean instant death. The evolutionary pressures that shaped early hominins did not reward accuracy; they rewarded overreaction. feel the “field” of social and environmental cues
project meaning onto ambiguous objects
stabilize fear through story, ritual, and shared belief
