Why This Matters
A system cannot be repaired while it is misdiagnosed. Calling a managed democracy “healthy” prevents intervention. Naming the pattern clearly allows people to see their experiences as structural, not personal.
What This Looks Like in Practice
- Replace “people aren’t engaged” with “the system is structurally non‑responsive.”
- Replace “housing is chaotic” with “housing is designed to produce instability.”
- Replace “public comment isn’t working” with “public comment has been converted into ritual.”
What This Changes
Once people understand the architecture, they stop blaming themselves and start recognizing the system as something that can be redesigned.
