Most of what we call “time off” is not rest.
It is unpaid participation in systems that extract our attention, creativity, and social energy, then resell it as data, content, or productivity.
Games, side gigs, and platforms often feel like freedom because they offer:
- choice instead of orders
- progress bars instead of performance reviews
- followers instead of supervisors
But the underlying pattern is the same:
- extract → optimize → expand
- keep going → never arrive
- produce value → for someone else
Real rest is not just the absence of a paycheck.
Real rest is the absence of extraction.
The question is no longer “How do I relax.”
The question is “Who does my relaxation work for.”
