Advice
Today’s prompt asks for the best advice I’ve ever been given.
So I ruminated.
Much of the advice I was given in childhood was awful. I was given advice about not taking up space, being pleasant, and being subservient. I was given advice about meeting countless expectations without being valued. I was given advice about not being a slut.
I suppose there’s a reason that none of that resonated for me.
It wasn’t until I met The Old Witch that I truly got a solid piece of advice. She told me not to run from my past. I couldn’t change it, so if I tried to run from it, I’d spend my whole life doing that. She said that by owning it, I get the rest of my life back. By owning it, I take away other people’s ability to use it against me.
She was right.
