a tiny spec of hope
Somehow in the midst of this division, as I grapple with so many people I love defending their whiteness, I’ve caught the tiniest ray of hope, and it’s crucial that we share those.
It’s no huge shock that the shoooter isn’t trans, because they almost never are. If it IS the guy they took into custody, and people in that camp tend to prefer a scapegoat they can hang immediately over accurate truth that takes a little time, he’s still the same blueprint of an active shoooter that we’ve been seeing.
I didn’t think that that would be possible any more than I thought it was a trans person. I didn’t think it possible because I had completely lost faith that there were in fact people on the right, who I disagree with about politics, but who still defend America.
Seeing what had happened to people like Liz Cheney who dared to have her own opinion, I had lost faith that there were still good people on that side. It’s been rough seeing people who were once free thinkers all line up to kiss the ring.
I know the label they’ve rushed to throw on him when it became clear that their “trans” label wouldn’t stick- that’s about as predictable as the day is long- but I caught a tiny glimmer of hope, and I almost didn’t notice it. I almost ignored it because I was being so actively shamed for being relieved that the world is a bit safer now.
There are people who I wholeheartedly disagree with who still believe in freedom and the American “democracy.” (I’m not using the “” “” sarcastically, we just use the term wrong.) There are still people like Liz Cheney who would refuse to kiss the rings.
Just because they aren’t speaking out doesn’t mean that they won’t. It’s dangerous. We’ve all let it become dangerous.
I don’t know that it means much. I don’t know that it’ll make any difference. I just wanted to share this little hope.
